re-posted from my facebook.
actually, today wasn't all that weird, but yesterday was. my last day in the office as a manager. today felt like a vacation day--it'll probably hit me monday. i'll miss it at times, but really, i'll miss the people. i finished up some last minute documentation for my replacement, but i definitely could have filled at least another week showing the ropes. i can now say that the first 20 minutes of my day can be condensed into a four page, text only document. or rather, the first 20 minutes of my former days.
the department threw me a (pseudo) going away party. it was a very nice send-off, and i was really at a loss for words (and apparently looked very uncomfortable). there was food and drinks, and gifts. they gave me some signed de-motivational posters, and i'm looking forward to setting up my office space so that i can display them. i'll post pictures once they're up.
i brought Nolan in for a bit before taking off for the day. he was a little grumpy, but he showed off some occasional smiles. i missed a few people i had hoped to catch before they left. having Nolan with me kind of changed the tone of my final moments in the office. i was on my last few goodbyes before it dawned on me that this was a bit more of a 'goodbye' than a regular 'seeya tomorrow'. i probably will be in the office sometime this week, but i wish i'd stayed a little bit more aware in the moment.
once i got home i wrote out a short thank you email. it was only a few lines long, but it probably took me an hour to write. speaking of things taking an hour to write... i better wrap this up so i don't have to edit it to say "two days ago was a weird day."
I should probably add something here.
