GURPS Kirinioth - The Nation of Ikihuvai Brainstorm
June 28, 2020
Ikihuvai (pronounced Uy-kivh-oo-vuy, "Place of Dwarves" in Aituaholdian) is a nation (primarily) of Dwarves on the western side of the Shielded Sea Region
Its bordered by a river to the north, joining the Elven lands, a short stretch of coast, ending at the city of Kvibrear, another river running south and westerly, and then enclosed by a massive chain of mountains along the western border
It has two major cities; the capital is Kvuth Aengyd, and the second city is Kvibrear; Kvibrear is notable because while technically two cities, it is in truth shared by the Dwarves and the humans of Human Civ #3
Minerals available include oil, copper (with silver and gold), gold (with silver, zinc, lead and mercury), iron and most importantly, Adamant
Trade partners include Neatt Kaed and Human Civ #2; they do some trade with Human Civ #3 and the halflings, but because Dwarves seldom are willing to travel by sea, trade mostly takes place only within Dwarven borders; Ikihuvai has no major sources of coal, and has an agreement with Neatt Kaed to work in their coal fields in exchange for refined metals
They are closely allied with Neatt Kaed and have numerous agreements and minor alliances with individual nobles of Human Civ #2
Dwarven troops are often heavily armored, preferring chain mail, and coats of plates; composition varies with both iron/steel and Adamant being used (depending on wealth and importance of the individual being armored); Adamant Dwarves prefer long, two-handed spears, though many are armed with light axes and heavy crossbows; Surface Dwarves often carry great swords or arming sword and shield
In the plains, fauna include bison, elk, deer, horse, coyote, wolf and cougar; in the forests, fauna include elk, deer, moose, bear, hog, coyote and wolf; in the mountains, fauna include sheep, goat and mountain lion; salmon and, occasionally shark can be found in the river
The Dwarven diet consists of large quantities of meat and, especially in the underground locales, mushrooms; Dwarven stamina and strength will allow hunters to stay out in the woods for long stretches, with hunts sometimes lasting weeks, a Dwarven hunting team might bring back wagons full of smoked meats; Dwarves also keep herds of bison, hog, sheep and goat; Dwarves are surprisingly adept farmers, with tomatoes and potatoes being especially popular; plants are typically grown as vertically as can be managed
Dwarves dress primarily in plain clothes, using tans, browns and grays; Dwarves are proud of their mining operations, and wealthier Dwarves are fond of jewelry; The types of metals used are generally left to taste; while gold is considered valuable to most, Dwarves don't typically value it above other metals like zinc or iron, but the craftsmanship is typically very good--a wealthy Dwarf is just as likely to wear a fancy steel necklace as one made of silver or gold
