GURPS Kirinioth - The Nation of Halfling Civ Brainstorm
June 29, 2020
Halfling Civ is a nation of (surprise!) Halflings, or Broett Iein, on the northern reaches of the Shielded Sea Region
Its northern borders are fairly undefined, as they are constantly under attack from the denizens of the icy north
To the west it is bordered by Human Civ #3, to the east it is cordered by the sea, and to the south it is bordered by the Nation of Thrinecia
The Broett Iein, normally peaceful, have skirmished with Thrinecia; during Alkanos' march, his armies treated the Broett Iein very poorly while passing through their lands and relations have been tense over the past 20+ years
Halfling Civ has three large cities, and two more notable cities scattered throughout the country; most halflings however live in small villages or in the forest
The Broett Iein do not have any major minerals available to them and obtain most of the minerals they need via trade; while not known for their use of magic, they do make use of magically infused materials, though to date, outsiders are not sure how they are obtained or created
Trade partners include Human Civ #2, Human Civ #3 and Neatt Kaed; while there is no formal trade with Ikihuvai, Broett Iein merchants do make their way to Kvibrear to buy and sell goods with the Dwarves
Broett Iein troops normally wear leather armors, and are armed with bows or crossbow; most carry a short sword or long dagger, but generally prefer to avoid melee combat
The Broett Iein are closely allied with the Reptile People, who are considered to be part of their nation; The Reptile people wear heavy armors of leather, scale, or in some case chain mail or coats of plate; they are far more likely to be armored in metal, as the halflings feel it is a more efficient use of the resource; for weapons, they carry greatswords (often in one hand) and large shields; some will carry javelins, maces or chained weapons
In large engagements, the Broett Iein make use of animals; their armies are often accompanied by bears, wolves, great cats, etc.
Fauna include deer, bear, moose, caribou, sheep, hog, wolf, and tiger
sheep and hog are the primary herd animals used for meat consumption, with dairy mostly imported in cheese form; wheat and corn are grown in the southern parts of the country, while vegetable and fruit orchards and farms are in the north
Broett Iein in the north often wear bright, festive colors, but the southern halflings tend to wear colors to help them blend with the forests or tall grass
